The recent Melbourne Cup event held at the Heineken House in Denarau successfully contributed to the ‘Run to Give’ initiative, a charitable effort aimed at supporting local programs. Neeraj Chadha, Vice President of Marriott International for Fiji and Samoa, emphasized the fun and community spirit fostered by this annual gathering, which has been ongoing for six years.
This year’s fundraising efforts were directed towards Markets for Change, a program supported by UNICEF. With the participation of hotels across Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, the ‘Run to Give’ initiative helped raise over $30,000. Funds collected from this event will be instrumental in aiding women entrepreneurs to develop their small businesses, thereby positively impacting the local community.
The event attracted over a hundred attendees, including tourists and local groups such as the Nadi Hash Harriers, creating a lively atmosphere filled with entertainment, delicious food, and beverages. It featured activities such as painting auctions and performances by the Vou Dance group, making it not just a charity event but also a celebration of camaraderie and togetherness.
Supporting partners for the event included Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC, all of whom contributed to the success of the gathering.
Overall, this event demonstrates the power of community engagement and the positive impact that collective efforts can achieve. Through initiatives like ‘Run to Give,’ communities can come together to support essential causes while enjoying enriching experiences.
In a hopeful outlook, such engaging charity events not only provide immediate support to local entrepreneurs but also inspire others in the region to participate in philanthropic endeavors, fostering a culture of giving and cooperation.
