Melania Tora, crowned Miss Hibiscus 2024, believes that the best way to celebrate her victory is by giving thanks to God. The 24-year-old shared her joy with family and attended church, expressing gratitude for the support she received during her journey.
In reflecting on her preparation for the pageant, Tora described an intense process that involved fasting, prayer, and researching past Hibiscus queens to inform her advocacy work. Her main focus is on mental health, which she identifies as a crucial issue interconnected with various social problems, including drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, and domestic violence.
Tora opened up about her personal battles with anxiety and chronic depression, a reality she acknowledges may be surprising to others. “I’ve struggled with anxiety and went through a season of depression my whole life, and I know that’s hard to believe. I very much understand what it’s like to feel hopeless,” she stated.
She also praised the camaraderie among contestants and expressed her appreciation for the event organizers, who managed the details well despite some minor hiccups. Tora is looking forward to celebrating in Sabeto and is eager to see what opportunities lie ahead, grateful for her journey so far.
