Nineteen-year-old Pepe Malani stands out this year at the esteemed Miss Hibiscus festival with her remarkable combination of academic excellence, sports achievements, musical talent, and community service. As a first-year Environmental Science student at the University of the South Pacific, she is proudly sponsored by Fiji Fashion Week, which aims to elevate globally competitive fashion design while boosting local employment and export growth, marking it as a key event in Fiji’s social scene.

Pepe’s journey reflects her determination and hard work. She has excelled in swimming throughout her primary and secondary schooling, earning numerous accolades in both school and club competitions. This athletic success has not only enhanced her physical capabilities but also fostered a strong commitment to excellence.

In addition to her sports achievements, Pepe’s musical talents are noteworthy. She was involved in her high school’s musical choir and is now a member of the Primanavia choir group. A highlight of her musical career was representing Fiji at the World Choir Games in New Zealand earlier this year, where her choir was awarded a gold medal, showcasing her commitment and talent on an international platform.

Pepe’s dedication extends to her community service. She has volunteered with St. John’s Ambulance, gaining valuable insights into the importance of assisting others in need. Growing up as the youngest of five siblings, Pepe has always been motivated by her family’s strong commitment to both sports and education. Her brother is an Olympian, embodying the spirit of excellence that runs through her family, with her siblings also achieving significant success in their academic and athletic endeavors.

The 68th Miss Hibiscus Festival, where Pepe will compete, is scheduled to take place at the Suva Civic Foreshore and Suva Civic Centre from Saturday, August 31st to Saturday, September 7th. FMF and Vodafone are the Gold Sponsors for this year’s festival, ensuring its ongoing success and vibrancy.
