A moist easterly wind flow is affecting Fiji, and a strong wind warning remains in force for Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa group, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the coastal areas of southern Bua and Ra–Rakiraki. Conditions through to midnight tomorrow will feature fresh to strong easterly winds and generally rough seas across these areas, with winds expected to ease and turn northeasterly from tomorrow.
On the islands and coastal districts under the warning, easterly winds are forecast at about 46 km/hr with gusts up to 55 km/hr. Sea conditions will be rough; small craft and those planning coastal activities should take care and consider avoiding exposed waters until winds ease. Elsewhere around the group, moderate to fresh easterly winds are expected, gusty at times, with generally rough seas offshore.
Showers and cloudy periods are likely across several parts of the main islands. Areas most affected by showers include Navua–Suva–Nausori, the Serua–Namosi–Naitasiri–Rewa–Tailevu–Ra corridor, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. In these districts residents can also expect the possibility of isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Other districts should remain mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers.
Temperatures will stay mild with light day–night variation. For Navua, Suva and Nausori expect a low around 22°C with a high near 29°C tomorrow; the outlook for Tuesday is similar with a low of 23°C and a high of 29°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba should see a minimum near 21°C and a maximum around 31°C, while Sigatoka and the Coral Coast will be about 21°C to 30°C. Yasawa and Mamanuca islands report similar temperatures in the low 20s overnight rising to the high 20s by day.
Rotuma has a trough in the vicinity and will experience cloudy periods with brief showers, moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Across affected coastal and island communities, secure loose objects, avoid unnecessary exposure to the sea, and exercise caution during any outdoor activities while the stronger easterly winds and rough seas persist.
