May 20, 2026 Fiji Forecast: Cloudy with brief showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms, heavy falls likely Friday across many islands

Rainy tropical road surrounded by lush palm trees in Fiji.

A moist southeast flow will bring cloudy periods with brief showers to parts of central and eastern Viti Levu and several outer island groups, while most other areas remain largely fine with only isolated afternoon or evening showers. Nights will be cool across the group. Winds are moderate southeast and seas moderate for now, though conditions are expected to change by Friday.

Today and tomorrow the greater Suva–Nausori area (including Navua, Serua and Namosi, and parts of Tailevu and Naitasiri) can expect cloudy periods with brief showers, with minimums near 21°C and daytime highs around 29°C. The interior and urban centres follow a similar pattern: Natadradave/Korovou and Sigatoka/Coral Coast seeing mainly cloudy periods and brief showers; Nadi, Lautoka and Ba remaining mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers with daytime highs near 30°C; Tavua and Rakiraki and northern centres such as Labasa around 31°C. The Yasawa and Mamanuca group, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Taveuni, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands will also see cloudy periods with brief showers and daytime temperatures generally in the high 20s to low 30s.

Looking ahead to Friday, showers are expected to become more widespread over Navua–Suva–Nausori, Serua–Namosi, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra, Southern Bua, Eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove (including Taveuni), the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. Elsewhere conditions will be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls are likely in several districts on Friday. Winds will tend to shift and freshen to the east, and seas are forecast to increase from moderate to rough in places.

Rotuma remains under a southeast flow with generally fine conditions apart from brief showers, moderate southeast winds and moderate seas; temperatures are around 21–31°C today and tomorrow, with a slightly warmer overnight outlook on Friday (minimum around 25°C). Practical points: expect cooler nights through the period, carry rain gear if you are in the central and eastern districts or the island groups named above, and for mariners take note that winds and seas may deteriorate into Friday with fresh easterlies and rougher conditions and isolated storms that could produce heavy local downpours.
