A weak trough of low pressure is lingering over Fiji and will keep a band of cloud and showers moving slowly across parts of the group for the next few days, while a southeasterly wind flow continues to prevail. This bulletin was issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 7:30pm on Saturday 16 May 2026.
Through to midnight tomorrow, expect cloudy periods with some showers across central and eastern areas including Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, as well as much of Vanua Levu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain‑falls are possible in these same areas. Elsewhere across the western and northern islands conditions will generally be fine, with only isolated afternoon or evening showers.
The outlook for Monday remains similar, with cloud and some showers continuing across the central belt and parts of northern Vanua Levu and adjacent smaller islands; Cakaudrove and southern Bua are forecast to see cloudier conditions as well. Temperatures will be mild, with cool nights expected. For the main centres, Navua/Suva/Nausori should see lows around 23°C and highs near 29°C (Monday lows near 22°C), while Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and Tavua/Rakiraki are warmer by day with highs to about 32°C and lows around 22°C. Many of the northern island ports and outlying groups — Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu — can expect cloudy periods with showers and daytime maxima near 30°C.
Southeasterly winds will be moderate to fresh and gusty at times. Seas are expected to be moderate to rough, so mariners and those planning coastal activities should take care and heed local advisories — small craft may be particularly affected. With the chance of isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms, localized pooling of water and brief hazardous conditions are possible where storms occur.
Rotuma has its own nearby trough to the south and will see cloudy periods with some showers under a moderate to fresh southeast flow and moderate to rough seas. Temperatures there are milder overnight to about 25°C and reach into the lower 30s by day; the Monday outlook includes the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
