A weak trough of low pressure is lying slow-moving over Fiji and will continue to influence the group into the start of the week. Cloudy periods and showers are expected across many parts of the country through to midnight tomorrow, while a prevailing southeasterly wind flow remains in place. Winds are forecast to be moderate to fresh and gusty at times, with seas moderate to rough.
For the forecast to midnight tomorrow, cloudy periods with some showers are likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby islands. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls are possible in these areas. Elsewhere conditions should be generally fine apart from isolated afternoon showers, and nights will be cool.
The outlook for Monday remains similar, with cloudy periods and showers expected over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and neighbouring islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls remain possible in the same zones, while other districts should see mainly fine weather with only isolated afternoon showers.
Local town forecasts show cloudy periods with some showers and temperatures around 23–29°C for Navua/Suva/Nausori and Natadradave/Korovou (outlooks for Monday with lows near 22°C). Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu are also expected to have cloudy periods with some showers, with overnight lows near 22°C and daytime highs near 30°C. The Yasawa/Mamanuca group, Sigatoka/Coral Coast, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and Tavua/Rakiraki should be mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers; daytime highs there reach about 30–32°C.
Rotuma will have cloudy periods with some showers under a separate weak trough to its south. Southeast winds there will be moderate to fresh and seas moderate to rough, with temperatures around 25–31°C and the outlook for Monday including some showers and isolated thunderstorms. Mariners and coastal communities should note the moderate to rough sea state and the potential for gusty southeasterly winds, and residents in the areas flagged for showers and thunderstorms should be prepared for brief periods of heavy rain.
