A weak trough of low pressure lying over the islands will bring increased cloud and pockets of showers to parts of Fiji through the next few days while a prevailing southeasterly wind flow remains in place. The main areas to watch for unsettled weather include parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and several island groups.
Cloudy periods with some showers are expected tonight and into Sunday for Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls are possible in these locations, so brief intense downpours cannot be ruled out. Elsewhere conditions should be mostly fine, with only isolated afternoon or evening showers developing.
Temperatures remain mild by day and cool at night. For Navua, Suva and Nausori expect lows around 23°C with daytime highs near 29°C (Sunday outlook lows near 22°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba will be warmer, with nights near 22°C and daytime maximums up to about 32°C. Other centres such as Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu are generally forecast to see lows around 22°C and daytime highs near 30°C.
Southeasterly winds will be moderate to fresh and gusty at times. Seas are expected to be moderate to rough, so mariners and those planning coastal activities should take the sea state into account. Overall nights will feel cool across most islands while daytime conditions vary from mostly fine in the western and exposed leeward areas to cloudier, showery periods where the trough remains active.
Rotuma: a separate weak trough lies to the south of the island. Rotuma will see cloudy periods with some showers, moderate to fresh southeast winds and moderate to rough seas, with temperatures around 25–31°C. The outlook for Sunday includes continued cloudy periods with some showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.
