A funding of $34,600 has been allocated for the development of the village of Matailobau in Naitasiri. The announcement was made by the Minister of Indigenous Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, who highlighted the government’s support for improving local community infrastructure.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the residents for their proactive approach in developing their community through a government initiative known as the Village Improvement Scheme. The recent funding will contribute to essential facilities, including a community hall, water supply systems, and educational resources, as well as solar power installations to enhance the village’s energy management.
Vasu emphasized the importance of the community taking ownership of the improvements and utilizing these developments to enhance their daily lives. Matailobau is one of 30 villages benefiting from this type of government support.
In a related engagement, Chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata addressed the residents of Nacokaika, also in Naitasiri, regarding the construction of a footpath to improve accessibility in the area. He expressed the significance of community efforts in fostering better living conditions, hygiene, and overall welfare.
This initiative not only highlights the ongoing collaboration between the government and local communities but also reflects a positive and hopeful outlook for future developments in rural areas. By empowering villages through these improvement schemes, residents can look forward to enhanced livelihoods and stronger community connections.
Overall, while challenges remain, the commitment shown by both community members and government officials indicates a shared vision for a brighter future for rural villages in Fiji.
