The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) is collaborating with the University of the South Pacific (USP) to organize an executive workshop led by Professor Keith Houghton, a highly regarded academic known globally for his innovative approaches to education.
The workshop, titled “Evidence-Based Thinking,” aims to provide participants with essential insights and practical tools. It will teach attendees how to critically assess information, make informed decisions, and address complex issues effectively, according to a FICA statement.
Professor Houghton holds degrees from esteemed institutions such as the University of Western Australia, the University of Melbourne, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is recognized for his extensive experience and knowledge, which he brings to Fiji. As the chief strategist of the Higher Education and Research Group (HERG), he has successfully guided both individuals and organizations toward improving their decision-making processes.
The workshop is targeted at executives and professionals responsible for significant decision-making. Participants will engage in case studies and learn techniques to:
– Formulate better questions to gather relevant information
– Conduct effective searches and evaluations of evidence
– Make informed decisions based on reliable data
– Judge the credibility of various information sources
Tarlochan Singh, Chairman of FICA’s Professional Development Committee, emphasized the significance of this event for executives aiming to elevate their decision-making abilities. The one-day workshop is set to take place on September 10 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
