Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has launched an ambitious tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa, investing millions into the initiative. The site, conveniently located near the Korovatu picnic area and offering scenic views of Mali Island and Malau, was visited recently by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications Manoa Kamikamica.
The project’s managing director, Ma Xianlin, who is an experienced tourism developer from China, purchased the 151-acre land in 2022 after being inspired by his tour of Fiji in 2018. He expressed his gratitude to Investment Fiji for their valuable support throughout the process.
So far, about $5 million has been allocated to the initial phases of the project. This funding covers upgrading the site in preparation for various developments, including a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, mountain steps, and other creative tourism activities. Mr. Xianlin indicated that the project is set to unfold in stages, with completion anticipated in five years.
Mr. Kamikamica conveyed his admiration for the early progress made, noting the breathtaking views the site provides, which are sure to attract both tourists and locals alike. He emphasized the positive impact the project will have on the local community, enriching their experience with unique tourism activities reminiscent of overseas attractions. The Deputy Prime Minister also encouraged Mr. Xianlin to seek government assistance when needed, supporting a collaborative environment for development success.
