Authorities have recently uncovered over 2,000 marijuana plants in two separate operations within the remote Malua Range of Nasikawa, Navosa. This significant seizure is part of an ongoing initiative by the police to tackle illegal drug cultivation, which includes both marijuana and more potent substances.

The successful raids were orchestrated by the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) in response to intelligence reports indicating illegal marijuana farming in the region. Officers undertook a challenging trek through difficult terrain, even spending a night in the highlands to ensure a thorough investigation.

In the first location, more than 1,800 plants were uprooted, while over 900 plants were discovered at a second site, with sizes ranging from 10 centimeters to 2.5 meters tall.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, underscored the importance of these operations, stating that the seizures play a crucial role in disrupting the drug supply chain. He noted that recent efforts have shifted focus toward dismantling the networks responsible for cultivating and distributing illegal drugs.

ACP Driu acknowledged the vital role the public plays in providing intelligence that leads to such findings and arrests. He encouraged community members to continue sharing information confidentially, emphasizing that many suspects have already been charged as a result of prior operations.

The police have shared several contact numbers for those wishing to report any suspicious activities:

– Crime Stoppers: 919
– SOCID: 3370012
– Director, SOCID: 9904923
– Deputy Director, SOCID: 9906881
– DPC West: 8901667
– WD Command Centre: 9905457

This ongoing proactive approach by law enforcement serves as a reminder of the community’s partnership in combating drug-related issues, fostering a safer environment for all. By encouraging public involvement and taking decisive action, authorities aim to continue their momentum in fighting against illegal drug cultivation and distribution.

In summary, the latest operations reflect a strong commitment by police to address drug-related crime, and with community support, there is hope for a future with less illicit drug activity in the region.
