Authorities recently uncovered over 2,000 marijuana plants in two separate locations within the remote Malua Range of Nasikawa, Navosa. This operation is part of an ongoing effort by the police to combat drug cultivation, which includes both marijuana and harder substances.

The raids were executed by officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) after receiving intelligence regarding illegal marijuana farms in the region. The challenging terrain necessitated a difficult trek for the team, who even spent a night in the mountainous area prior to the operation. At one site, they uprooted more than 1,800 plants, while a second location yielded over 900 plants, with sizes ranging from 10 cm to 2.5 meters.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, underlined the importance of these seizures in disrupting the drug supply chain. He noted that recent efforts have focused on dismantling networks involved in the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs. Driu also acknowledged the vital role of community members in providing information, which has led to these discoveries and several arrests.

Additionally, ACP Driu encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity, reassuring them that their tips would be kept confidential. Various contact numbers have been provided for those who wish to share information, including dedicated lines for Crime Stoppers and SOCID.

In summary, this proactive approach by law enforcement is a positive step toward addressing the issue of illegal drug cultivation and distribution. The encouragement of public involvement reflects a community effort to enhance safety and wellbeing in the region.

This ongoing combat against drug-related activities showcases the dedication of the authorities to create a safer environment, indicating hope for future improvements in public health and safety.
