Masi Set to Step into Radradra’s Shoes at Lyon?

Fijian Drua’s Iosefo Masi is being considered as a potential replacement for his fellow Taveuni native Semi Radradra at the French Top 14 club, Lyon. Masi signed a two-year deal with the Fijian Drua in 2022, which is set to expire at the end of this year, and he has yet to extend his contract.

Reports from Midi Olympique indicate that Radradra’s contract is also nearing its conclusion, with little expectation of renewal. The report states, “According to our information, the Lyon leaders are currently pursuing one of the standout players from the last Super Rugby season.” It further notes, “On the Lou side, Semi Radradra (32 years old, 17 caps) is at the end of his contract, and the Lyon leaders are inquiring.”

Previously, club president Yann Roubert shared his thoughts regarding Radradra. While his comments appeared courteous, the club seems uncertain about extending Radradra’s costly contract. Roubert remarked, “For Semi, as well as the rest of the group and the entire club, we wished for more and better last season. The dynamism of sport allows for a fresh start this coming season, which should enable everyone to demonstrate their abilities and commitment to values, showing that they can perform much better.”

He added, “Each season, players come to the end of their contracts, and this upcoming season will provide insights into whether there is a mutual interest in continuing together. It will also serve as an opportunity for all players to showcase their value and willingness to contribute to the team’s success.”

Last weekend, Radradra was not included in the starting lineup as Lyon suffered a heavy defeat, losing 43-22 to La Rochelle.
