Marijuana continues to lead the number of drug-related cases reported to the police, according to Divisional Crime Prevention North coordinator Inspector Vidya Pillay.
The senior police officer revealed that out of 768 drug-related cases reported from January to May this year, 600 were marijuana-related.
“These were out of the 768 drug-related cases reported from January to May this year,” said Inspector Pillay.
Of the remaining cases, 168 were linked to methamphetamine.
“These statistics reflect policing efforts, but they do not define who we are as a society,” Pillay added.
The age group topping the list for drug-related offenses was 18 to 35.
“There were 517 individuals from the ages of 18 to 35 charged in connection with illicit drugs, followed by 265 individuals aged 36 to 55, and 15 were over the age of 56,” said Inspector Pillay.
He emphasized that no age group is immune to the impacts of illicit drugs.
