Former Fiji Bati player Marcelo Montoya is set to leave the New Zealand Warriors and return to Australia. The 28-year-old has received an early release from his contract, which was due to expire next season.
Warriors general manager for recruitment, pathways, and development, Andrew McFadden, expressed happiness for Montoya, stating they were supportive of his decision to pursue a longer-term opportunity in Australia. He highlighted Montoya’s positive impact during his four seasons with the club, noting his significant contributions both on and off the field. McFadden extended well wishes to Montoya and his wife Tayla for their future.
Montoya is expected to rejoin his former team, the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, on a two-year deal. During his time with the Warriors, he scored 30 tries in 82 appearances, including playing all 27 games in the 2023 season.
