Sireli Maqala, the fullback for Flying Fijians, delivered an outstanding performance by scoring the try-of-the-match, leading Bayonne to a decisive 37-7 victory over La Rochelle in their Top 14 matchup at Stade Jean Dauger Stadium yesterday. Maqala, who played in the outside centre position, initiated and capped off an impressive length-of-the-field attack, finishing with a stylish dive in the corner to score in the 50th minute.
Bayonne established a solid lead in the first half, with tries from Aurelien Callandret, Facundo Bosch, and Camille Lopez, along with a penalty try. The flyhalf also contributed with two conversions and a penalty. La Rochelle managed to score a solitary try in the 71st minute through Alexandre Kuntelia, with Ihaia West successfully converting the attempt.
