Manslaughter Sentencing for Former Police Officers Delayed Again

The High Court in Suva has rescheduled the sentencing of three former police officers facing manslaughter charges to October 17, due to a lack of preparation. The officers, Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, anticipating a decision. The charges originate from the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022, after he was taken to the Samabula Police Station for allegedly attacking a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence. The injuries sustained resulted in Tikoivalenibula’s death. The three officers are currently out on bail.
