The allegations against Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali have been forwarded to the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department for additional inquiry.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions indicated that the initial investigations conducted were inadequate. FICAC referred the case to the ODPP on September 19, shortly after Ms. Malimali assumed her role.

The investigation was assessed by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, John Rabuku, alongside Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva. Their analysis concluded that the investigation was not thorough enough, leading to the decision to send the case file to the CID with a request for a complete investigation.

Following the completion of this investigation, the file will be returned to the ODPP for a detailed review of all the gathered evidence. An update regarding the outcome of this review will be provided once the ODPP has received the completed investigation file and decisions have been made.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa confirmed that he has received the investigation file along with the accompanying letter from the ODPP, stating that all necessary procedures will be followed for registration, investigation, summarization, and return to the ODPP.
