Malaysia and Fiji: A Trade Partnership on the Rise!

Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus, has expressed strong support for the increasing trade relationship between Fiji and Malaysia. During his address at the 67th Malaysia National Day and 61st Malaysia Day celebrations held at the High Commission residence, Idrus highlighted that Malaysia consistently ranks among the top ten trading partners of Fiji, demonstrating the robust and stable trade relations between the two nations.

He noted the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, including petroleum oils, soybean oil, and motorcars. Idrus mentioned a representative from Vision Motors, which imports Proton cars, encouraging attendees to learn more about these Malaysian-made vehicles.

Idrus also pointed to the recent accomplishments of GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd in securing partnerships with Malaysian suppliers as a significant development in trade relations. He acknowledged the contributions of companies well connected to Malaysia, such as the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, which have successfully established their presence in Fiji and inspire other businesses to explore this promising market.

He stated that under Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, Malaysia aims to pursue opportunities that foster inclusivity, equity, sustainability, and resilience in development. Emphasizing Malaysia’s openness as an economy, he reiterated the nation’s commitment to business collaboration with Fiji and the broader region through the MADANI Economic framework, which seeks to implement structural reforms for a more sustainable future.

Idrus concluded by reaffirming that the friendly relations between Malaysia and Fiji also extend into their trade partnerships.
