Malaysia and Fiji: A Rising Trade Partnership

Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus, has expressed strong support for the expanding trade relationship between Malaysia and Fiji. Speaking at the 67th Malaysia National Day and 61st Malaysia Day celebrations at the High Commission residence, Mr. Idrus highlighted that Malaysia consistently ranks among Fiji’s top ten trading partners, showcasing the strength and stability of their trade relations.

He noted the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, specifically mentioning petroleum oils, soybean oil, and motorcars. He introduced a representative from Vision Motors, which imports Proton cars, inviting attendees to learn more about these Malaysian vehicles.

Mr. Idrus also pointed out the recent success of GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd in securing business deals with Malaysian suppliers, marking a positive development in their trade relations. He took pride in the contributions of companies with close ties to Malaysia, such as the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, all of which have established a strong presence in Fiji. Their success serves as an inspiration for other businesses looking to enter this promising market.

Under Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, Mr. Idrus stated that Malaysia is focused on pursuing opportunities and collaborating with other nations to create a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and resilient development paradigm. He emphasized that Malaysia, as an open economy, enjoys trading with countries globally, including Fiji and the surrounding region. Central to this effort is the MADANI Economic framework, which includes structural reforms aimed at paving a sustainable and inclusive future for Malaysia.

The excellent friendship between the two nations extends to their trade relationships, Mr. Idrus concluded.
