Malaysia and Fiji: A Growing Trade Alliance

Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus, has expressed strong support for the increasing trade ties between Fiji and Malaysia. Speaking at the 67th Malaysia National Day and 61st Malaysia Day celebrations at the High Commission residence, Mr. Idrus highlighted that Malaysia consistently ranks as one of Fiji’s top ten trading partners, demonstrating the robust nature of their trade relations.

He noted the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, such as petroleum oils, soybean oil, and motor vehicles. “We have a representative from Vision Motors here today, who can provide more information about the exceptional Malaysian-made Proton cars,” Mr. Idrus remarked.

He also mentioned the recent achievements of GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd in securing agreements with Malaysian suppliers, marking a positive development in their trade partnership.

Mr. Idrus emphasized Malaysia’s pride in the contributions from companies with strong connections to Malaysia, like the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, all of which have established a significant presence in Fiji. Their accomplishments serve as motivation for other businesses looking to enter this promising market.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia is seeking opportunities to collaborate with other nations to foster a new development paradigm that is more inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and resilient.

He added that Malaysia, as an open economy, values its trade relationship with countries worldwide, including Fiji and the surrounding region. This commitment is underscored by the MADANI Economic framework, which focuses on structural reforms aimed at creating a more sustainable and inclusive future for the nation.

In summary, the excellent relationship between Malaysia and Fiji extends beyond friendship to encompass strong trade links.
