Major Sports Grounds Set for Exciting Upgrades

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has requested quotations from contractors for the enhancement of several sports grounds across the country.

Minister Jese Saukuru revealed they are planning to invest around $50,000 to upgrade the identified sports grounds.

These grounds are currently used by rugby teams for major provincial competitions.

“We are already working on it,” Saukuru said. “We are seeking quotations from contractors willing to collaborate with us. The upgrades will focus on existing grounds to improve their conditions, such as proper drainage and elevation, as many are in poor condition due to water and rain issues.”

“We also want to ensure there are proper seating arrangements for spectators.”

He noted that this initiative is part of their allocation in the 2024-2025 budget.

“We aim to put these grounds in better shape, especially school grounds used for provincial games. Many provincial rugby teams lack permanent home grounds. For example, Naitasiri, Bua, Macuata, Kadavu, and Lau do not have their own permanent grounds,” he added.

Mr. Saukuru acknowledged that while not all grounds may be upgraded this year, the work will continue in the following years.
