The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a significant reshuffle involving three Permanent Secretaries, effective February 3, 2025, aimed at enhancing leadership across key ministries. This decision, made in consultation with the Prime Minister, reflects the government’s commitment to optimizing administrative effectiveness.

Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who is the current Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, will take over Taga’s position in the Office of the Prime Minister and will also act as the Permanent Secretary for Immigration, directly reporting to the Minister of Immigration.

Additionally, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has expanded his duties by serving as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.

PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada emphasized that these changes are part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen leadership and improve service delivery in response to the evolving needs of the nation. This initiative aligns with past efforts to ensure that qualified and experienced individuals are at the helm of essential ministries, thus enhancing accountability and promoting a more efficient public service framework.

Overall, this reshuffle not only highlights the growing significance of local talent in leadership roles but also exemplifies a proactive approach to governance. By implementing strategic changes, the government is setting the stage for progressive administrative improvements that seek to benefit the citizens of Fiji.

In summary, these leadership adjustments are a hopeful sign for the future of governance in Fiji, promising enhanced efficiency and responsiveness in public service.
