Over 2,000 marijuana plants were discovered during two separate operations in the Malua Range located in the Nasikawa district of Navosa on Monday. This significant finding is part of the police’s ongoing campaign to fight against drug cultivation, which includes both marijuana and other hard substances.
The raids were conducted by officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) following intelligence reports pointing to illegal marijuana farms in the remote area. The challenging terrain required officers to navigate through difficult conditions, including spending a night in the highlands to prepare for the operation.
In total, more than 1,800 plants were uprooted from one site, while another location yielded over 900 plants, varying in height from 10 cm to 2.5 meters. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted the importance of these operations in disrupting the drug supply chain and emphasized the focus on dismantling networks involved in the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs.
ACP Driu acknowledged the critical role played by the community, which provided vital information leading to the identification of these illegal farms and the apprehension of several suspects. Many individuals have already faced charges in relation to previous raids, and the police continue to encourage the public to share any knowledge of drug-related activities while ensuring confidentiality.
For those with information, the police have made available several contact numbers, including Crime Stoppers, the SOCID, and respective Divisional Police Command Centres, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the fight against drug crimes.
This ongoing commitment by law enforcement authorities to combat drug cultivation not only aims to improve public safety but also fosters a community spirit where residents play an active role in addressing local issues. Through cooperation and vigilance, the community can contribute to creating a healthier environment free from the burdens of illegal drug activities.
In summary, the recent police operations have successfully uncovered significant illegal marijuana cultivation in Navosa, and the engagement of the community highlights a united front against drug-related crime in the region. With continued efforts, there is hope for a safer and drug-free society.
