The government has allocated $900,000 for clean and safe drinking water projects in the villages of Niurua and Naqumu, located in Macuata. This announcement was made by Macuata provincial administrator Revoni Rakasa during a presentation at the Macuata Provincial Council meeting held in Sasa Village.
Rakasa highlighted the government’s broader commitment to infrastructure and service enhancements in the northern region, noting that a total of $637 million has been earmarked for various improvements in the area. “The Government is focused on ensuring that the people in the Northern Division, which includes Macuata, have access to essential services,” he stated.
The allocated funds will target critical projects, particularly in road maintenance, water supply, communication, and market accessibility. Rakasa mentioned that several projects have already been identified for funding and that the government aims to provide timely support to those in need, though it may take some time for implementation.
Additionally, Rakasa underscored the government’s ongoing commitment to disaster relief, revealing that over $655 million was spent on aid efforts last year to assist those affected by natural disasters.
This initiative emphasizes the government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for communities in the northern region, particularly through access to clean water—an essential component for health and well-being. The funding allocated not only aims to address immediate needs but also supports long-term infrastructure development, promoting overall community resilience.
In summary, the allocation of funds for clean drinking water in Niurua and Naqumu villages reflects a proactive approach by the government to enhance essential services and respond to community needs in Macuata and the northern division.
