Authorities in Navosa have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal drug cultivation, uncovering over 2,000 marijuana plants in two separate raids in the remote Malua Range on Monday. This operation was executed by officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID), as part of their ongoing efforts to dismantle networks involved in drug cultivation and distribution.
The police action was prompted by intelligence reports indicating the existence of illegal marijuana farms in the challenging terrain of the area. The officers dedicated considerable effort by trekking through difficult landscapes and even spent a night in the highlands to carry out the successful operation.
In one site, law enforcement uprooted more than 1,800 plants, while a second location yielded over 900 plants, with sizes ranging from 10 cm to 2.5 meters. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu stressed the importance of these raids, as they are crucial in disrupting the drug supply chain. He noted that the recent operations have led to multiple arrests, and highlighted the invaluable role the public has played by providing information that facilitated these discoveries.
ACP Driu encouraged anyone with information regarding illegal drug activities to come forward confidentially through the established contact numbers, ensuring that the community continues to play an integral role in promoting safety and combating drug-related issues.
This proactive approach by law enforcement not only showcases their commitment to tackling drug crimes but also reinforces the importance of community involvement in creating a safer environment for everyone.
The ongoing efforts of the police illustrate a hopeful trajectory towards reducing drug-related issues in the region, enhancing the overall safety of the community.
