Over the past day, a series of operations have led to the seizure of suspected illegal drugs and money thought to be derived from criminal activity. The Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP), Livai Driu, stated that a group of young men cutting cane on a farm in Tabia were apprehended yesterday when officers discovered dried leaves presumed to be marijuana on the property.
The Narcotics and Crime Intel Unit, in collaboration with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU), also uncovered numerous packets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana and money possibly linked to drug sales in Vunivau during a separate operation. One person was apprehended during the raid.
In another development within the Northern Division, the Cakau Operations team confiscated plants suspected to be marijuana from a farm in the Tacilevu area. The farm’s owner is already known to the police and investigations to determine his location are ongoing.
In the early hours of this morning, officers from the Western K9 Unit and FDDU detected a vehicle in Waqadra that was suspected to be transporting drugs. Upon searching the vehicle, they found a bag containing white powdery substances thought to be methamphetamine. Consequently, three men were detained for further questioning.
All confiscated substances have been sent to the laboratory for definitive analysis. ACP Driu acknowledged the success of these operations as a result of invaluable information provided by the public, adding that it serves as a deterrent for those engaged in illegal drug trade.
