Fijian Drua player Iosefo Masi is being considered as a potential replacement for Semi Radradra, another player from Taveuni, at the French Top 14 team, Lyon. Masi had signed a two-year deal with the Fijian Drua in 2022, which is set to expire at the end of this year, but there has been no announcement regarding an extension of his contract.
Recent reports from Midi Olympique indicate that Radradra’s contract is also nearing its end and is unlikely to be renewed. The article noted that Lyon officials are exploring options following Radradra’s situation. It stated, “According to our information, the Lyon leaders would be in any case today on the trail of one of the revelations of the last Super Rugby.”
Club president Yann Roubert has previously commented on Radradra’s standing with the team. Though his remarks were diplomatic, the club appears uncertain about extending Radradra’s costly contract. Roubert mentioned, “For Semi as for the rest of the group and the entire club, we hoped for more and better last season. The magic of sport allows this restart with this coming season, which must allow everyone to show their worth.”
He emphasized that the new season would provide opportunities for players to demonstrate their value and potential for continued tenure with the team. Last weekend, Radradra did not start for Lyon during a disappointing 43-22 defeat against La Rochelle.
