Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya has responded to criticism surrounding the launch of her new charitable organization, the Lynda Tabuya Foundation, asserting that it is not politically motivated ahead of the 2026 General Election. Announced on her Facebook page, the foundation is described by Tabuya as a “private, grassroots-driven philanthropic organization” that seeks to support women, children, and vulnerable communities throughout Fiji.
Although the foundation is still in the process of formal registration with the Registrar of Titles, Tabuya emphasized that the initiative has been a long-term goal of hers. She noted, “This has been a long time coming for me,” reinforcing her commitment to community outreach and transparency regarding her salary, which she has been directing towards charitable endeavors since 2018.
The upcoming soft launch of the foundation is set to kick off with the donation of uniforms to the Mid-Central Volleyball Alliance in Nasinu, showcasing her dedication to local initiatives. While some members of the public reacted positively to the foundation’s announcement, others have raised questions about its timing in relation to the forthcoming general election.
Tabuya has previously expressed her intention to run for re-election in 2026, aligning her philanthropic efforts with her ongoing political responsibilities. In a related context, she has also vocally supported Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s leadership, indicating a strong commitment to continuity in political efforts for the benefit of Fiji.
This development offers a hopeful outlook for communities in Fiji, as initiatives aimed at uplifting vulnerable populations can pave the way for a more equitable society. Moreover, Tabuya’s determination to merge her role as a public servant with charitable work reflects a positive example of how political figures can actively contribute to their communities beyond legislative responsibilities.
Efforts like these not only bring attention to pressing social issues but also serve to inspire other leaders to prioritize community engagement and support—fostering an environment of accountability and compassion in the country’s political landscape.
