Fiji Men’s National 7s head coach, Osea Kolinisau, has expressed his pride in Ponipate Loganimasi for joining the Fijian Drua team. Kolinisau emphasizes the significance of player development and the importance of seizing opportunities as they arise.
Loganimasi, renowned for his speed on the rugby field, will team up with his fellow Paris Olympics teammates Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada in the Drua Men’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. He made a notable debut for the national 15s side, scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan after stepping in for the injured Ravutaumada in the tournament’s first round.
Kolinisau shared his enthusiasm regarding Loganimasi’s advancement, highlighting his desire for all players to follow a similar trajectory from 7s to 15s rugby. “I’m pleased with Loganimasi’s move to the Drua; that’s the kind of progression we want, transitioning from 7s to 15s,” Kolinisau stated.
He believes that making the shift to the 15s format can offer players enhanced skill development and better financial prospects. “It’s great progress because that’s where the financial opportunities lie, so I’m happy for Poni and wish him all the best in his season with the Drua as well as in achieving his future goals.”
