The New Vision 21 volleyball team, based in Vatuwaqa, is determined to make a significant impact in this year’s Suva Volleyball Association club competition. Founded earlier this year, the team aims to empower the youth within their community, and they have been progressing well under the mentorship of head coach Matayasi Suka.

Suka noted that many players are newcomers to volleyball, yet he is impressed by their enthusiasm and commitment to learning the sport. Although the team secured victories in both of their matches due to default wins from opponents not showing up, their ardor for volleyball remains strong.

The primary motivation behind forming this team was to create a positive environment for the local youth, helping to divert their focus from negative influences such as drug abuse and leading them toward a more promising future. Suka highlighted, “So far the team has done well; most of these boys are participating in volleyball for the first time, and their potential is remarkable.”

While the competition has presented challenges, particularly against established teams, the New Vision 21 team is dedicated to improving steadily and honing their skills. Suka expressed thanks to the Suva Volleyball Association for the chance to compete and for their support in fostering the players’ physical and mental development.

This initiative not only provides an avenue for sport but also serves as a vital community program focusing on youth empowerment, which can lead to a healthier and more engaged generation.

Overall, this story is a testament to the potential of community-driven sports programs to effect positive change in the lives of young people. The journey of New Vision 21 is just beginning, and there is hope that their passion and dedication will continue to grow.
