INSYDOUT, a touch rugby team hailing from Raiwaqa in Suva, participated in the opening day of the Fijian Cup at Lawaqa Park in Suva yesterday. Nelson Cokanasiga, the vice-captain of the team, shared insights about their preparation and the valuable experience gained during the tournament.
Cokanasiga emphasized that the team had been preparing for three weeks leading up to the event and highlighted the significant international exposure they received at Lawaqa. “The international exposure was on another level,” he said, noting that it provided a different pace and helped the team understand the dynamics of overseas play, marking a crucial learning experience for them.
While the team faced losses during their pool games, Cokanasiga maintained a positive outlook on their development. He expressed the necessity of more competitions to fully realize the team’s potential, stating, “Just more one-day tournaments will be really good in preparation for more tournaments like this and for more local teams.”
He also pointed out the need for greater participation from local teams in the Fijian Cup, expressing hope for an increase in local representation in the future. Additionally, he extended his gratitude to the team’s supporters, underscoring the importance of their backing as the team ventured into the competition.
This experience not only provided valuable lessons for INSYDOUT but also highlights the potential for growth in the local rugby scene in Fiji. With continued support and more competitive opportunities, teams like INSYDOUT can further develop their skills and contribute to the sport’s popularity in the region.
