Rayna Chand’s hard work and commitment to her studies have culminated in a remarkable achievement as she scored the highest marks in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division.

The 13-year-old head girl of Wainikoro Public School in Macuata excelled with an impressive score of 485 out of 500. This extraordinary accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Wainikoro Public School, as it is the first time the institution has achieved such high recognition.

Rayna’s outstanding scores reflect her dedication: she earned 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. Grateful for her success, she expressed her heartfelt appreciation to her parents, class teacher, subject teachers, and head teacher.

“I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu,” said the Taganikula native, who is determined to make her family proud. Rayna’s father works as an electrician in Suva, while her mother is an administrative staff member at her school, both of whom strive to support her educational needs.

The eldest sibling, Rayna noted that she dedicated herself to studying late into the night and rising at 4 a.m. for revision. “I have always come first in my school since Year One,” she remarked, sharing that despite the challenges faced along the way, she never allowed them to deter her from reaching her goals.

Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride in her daughter’s achievements and announced plans to enroll Rayna at Labasa College for her further education.

WPS head teacher Rajesh Kumar also conveyed his happiness, crediting the support from the Ministry of Education in Labasa, particularly divisional education officer Iliseva Volai and senior education officer Dharmendra Dayal, for their valuable guidance in helping achieve this significant milestone.

“This is the first time we have received the highest mark in the North, and both the school management and I are proud,” Mr. Kumar stated. He also highlighted that Rayna was the school dux this year, further emphasizing her academic excellence.

This remarkable story of Rayna Chand serves as an inspiring example of how perseverance, dedication, and support can lead to outstanding accomplishments. Her journey illustrates the positive impact of a strong support system and hard work, inspiring other students to pursue their academic goals with the same determination.
