Local Student Makes History with Record-Breaking Exam Scores

Rayna Chand’s hard work and commitment to her studies have garnered remarkable results, as she achieved the highest score in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. The 13-year-old head girl of Wainikoro Public School in Macuata excelled with an impressive score of 485 out of 500, marking a historic achievement for her school.

In her examination, Rayna closely demonstrated her academic prowess with scores including 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. Rayna expressed her gratitude towards her parents, her class teacher, subject teachers, and head teacher for their unwavering support.

Proudly, she stated, “I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu.” With a dedication to making her family proud, she revealed her routine of studying late at night and waking up at 4 a.m. for revision. Rayna, who has consistently been at the top of her class since Year One, aspires to become a doctor one day.

Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed her pride in Rayna’s accomplishments and announced plans for her daughter to attend Labasa College for further education. Wainikoro Public School’s head teacher, Rajesh Kumar, shared his happiness over Rayna’s achievement, acknowledging the support received from the Ministry of Education in Labasa, particularly from divisional education officer Iliseva Volai and senior education officer Dharmendra Dayal.

“This is the first time we received the highest mark in the North, and the school management is greatly proud,” Mr. Kumar said, adding that Rayna was also recognized as the school’s dux this year.
