Rayna Chand’s hard work and commitment to excellence paid off when she achieved the highest score in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. The 13-year-old head girl from Wainikoro Public School in Macuata scored an impressive 485 out of 500 marks, marking a historic achievement for her school.
Her performance reflects outstanding results across various subjects: 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. Rayna expressed her gratitude to her parents, teachers, and school administration for their unwavering support throughout her educational journey.
“I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu,” said Rayna, who hails from Taganikula. She revealed that her motivation stemmed from the desire to make her family proud, particularly acknowledging her father’s work as an electrician in Suva and her mother’s job at the school.
Rayna described her study habits, which included late nights and early mornings, waking up at 4 am for revisions. “I have consistently come first in my school since Year One,” shared the aspiring doctor. Despite facing challenges along the way, she maintained a positive outlook and focused on her educational goals.
Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride in her daughter’s accomplishments and mentioned plans to enroll her at Labasa College for further studies. Rajesh Kumar, the head teacher of WPS, celebrated this achievement as a milestone for the school, thanking the Ministry of Education’s Labasa office and its officials for their guidance that helped them reach this level of success. “This is the first time we have received the highest mark in the North, and we, including the school management, are proud,” Mr. Kumar stated. Rayna was also recognized as the school dux this year.
