Amit Kumar from Taveuni weighed in at 76.3kg at Nair Dias yesterday for the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event, where he expressed his commitment to give his best. His opponent, Mikaele Marisi of the Lautoka Happy Gloves boxing club, came in at 75.2kg during the weigh-in.

Kumar, who has not fought since 2004, stated that he is fully prepared for the 4×3 event after a month of training. “I am preparing for one month now and my body feels great, and I will give my best shot,” he said.

Mohammed Shameem, director of South Pacific Boxing Promotion, highlighted the significance of this event for local boxers to showcase their skills. “We have brought in three IBO sanctioned fights, something like this has never happened in Fiji and we want to keep supporting local boxers,” he said. Shameem also mentioned plans for a larger event next May if all goes well.

Additionally, the card features fights such as Jnr Abhay Chand versus Vitori Cabalevu in a 6×3 contest, while Apisai Naciqa will face Marika Kavika, Manoa Tuiyaro will take on Ezra Volavola, and Amo Wati will compete against Maureen Neumia in the only female bout scheduled for 4×2.
