Lilian Amazons Triumph in U20 Women’s Rugby Tournament!

The Lilian Amazon team has emerged victorious in the women’s category of the Fiji Sports Council under-20 sevens rugby tournament, defeating Senikakala Amazons with a score of 12-5. This exciting final took place yesterday at Thomson Park in Navua, wrapping up the tournament’s first leg.

Having shown strong performance in both group and elimination matches throughout the one-day event, the team advanced confidently to the finals. Tihrani Uluinakauvadra, the team’s coach, expressed gratitude for the victory and highlighted the squad’s ambition to establish themselves as the premier women’s rugby team in Fiji.

“We’ve changed our goal this year. We want to be the best in Fiji, and we want to acknowledge God’s work within the team,” Coach Uluinakauvadra remarked, reflecting on their aspirations. The team previously showcased their talent at the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s and the Brimstone 7s, securing victories against formidable opponents, including the Seahawks. They also enjoyed success with two wins at the Duavata 7s in New Zealand last month.

This tournament specifically catered to the U20 category, and Coach Uluinakauvadra noted the strategic inclusion of three senior players alongside a young and developing team. He praised the players for their outstanding performances on the field.

Looking ahead, the coach emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and continuity within the team as they prepare for future competitions. “We want to make sure that while we are dominating, we don’t want to split and make ourselves thin,” he stated.

In addition to their title win, the team also received prize money, further supporting their journey in women’s rugby. This victory marks an encouraging sign for the future of women’s rugby in Fiji, highlighting the growth and potential of young athletes in the sport.
