Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) reported that a lightning strike caused a power disruption early today at 6:00 a.m. EFL Chief Operating Officer Bobby Naimawi explained that the strike led to the tripping of the 132,000 volts transmission lines running from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and from Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka. This incident resulted in an electricity supply outage across parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Naimawi informed that EFL teams worked swiftly and successfully reenergized the main transmission line, with power being fully restored by 8:30 a.m. He noted that there was significant thunder and lightning activity in the Monasavu area, which contributed to the power disruption.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of electrical infrastructure to natural phenomena. However, the efficient response from EFL showcases their readiness to manage such situations, ensuring minimal disruption for the affected communities. Timely restoration of power not only restores normalcy but also emphasizes the resilience of the energy supply system in the face of unpredictable weather conditions.
In essence, while such weather-related incidents may cause temporary inconveniences, they also present an opportunity for energy providers to demonstrate their commitment to service reliability and rapid disaster response, ultimately fostering trust within the community.
