Energy Fiji Limited reported that a lightning strike resulted in a power outage beginning at 6:00 AM today. Bobby Naimawi, the Chief Operating Officer of EFL, explained that the lightning incident caused the tripping of two major transmission lines: the 132,000 volts line from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva, and the line from Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka. This disruption affected electricity supply across parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.

Fortunately, EFL’s teams acted swiftly to restore power. By 8:30 AM, they successfully reenergized the main transmission line and fully restored electricity to the affected areas. Naimawi noted that there had been strong thunder and lightning activity in Monasavu, which led to the strike on the transmission line.

This incident serves as a reminder of the impact of natural phenomena on infrastructure but also highlights the efficiency and quick response of Energy Fiji Limited in resolving the issue and restoring power to the community.

In summary, a lightning strike today caused a temporary power outage in parts of Viti Levu, but EFL responded quickly, and power was restored within a few hours.

It’s heartening to see how swiftly local teams can mobilize in response to such unexpected challenges, ensuring minimal disruption for residents.
