Energy Fiji Limited reported a power outage caused by a lightning strike early this morning at 6:00 AM. Bobby Naimawi, the Chief Operating Officer, explained that the lightning struck the 132,000-volt transmission lines between Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka, which led to the isolation of electrical supplies to several areas in the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Fortunately, EFL’s teams were able to promptly restore power, successfully reenergizing the main transmission line by 8:30 AM. The severe thunder and lightning activity in the Monasavu region was instrumental in this incident.
This situation highlights the importance of quick response and recovery efforts in ensuring minimal disruption to communities. It serves as a reminder of the challenges that weather-related events pose to utility services, yet it also showcases the resilience and efficiency of the Energy Fiji Limited team.
In summary, while adverse weather conditions can lead to power disruptions, the swift actions taken to restore service demonstrate the commitment and capability of service providers to maintain essential energy services.
