Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has reported that a lightning strike caused a power outage early today at 6:00 AM. Bobby Naimawi, the Chief Operating Officer, explained that the strike affected the 132,000 volts transmission lines from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and from Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka, leading to a temporary loss of electricity supply in several areas of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Fortunately, EFL’s teams worked swiftly to address the issue, successfully reenergizing the main transmission line and restoring power completely by 8:30 AM. The disruption was attributed to heavy thunder and lightning activity in the Monasavu region, where the lightning struck the transmission line.
This incident highlights the challenges that utility providers face due to unpredictable weather conditions. However, the timely response from EFL’s teams ensured that the power was restored promptly, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining reliable service for their customers.
In summary, despite the challenges posed by severe weather, the quick actions of Energy Fiji Limited allowed for a swift resolution to the outage, ensuring minimal disruption to the community. This reflects the resilience of essential services in the face of natural events, reminding us of the importance of preparedness and efficient emergency response systems.
