On the beautiful Island of Kadavu, Naceva District School celebrated the arrival of new classrooms and a solar power system, much to the delight of teachers and students.
During the official handover ceremony, the school’s management expressed their appreciation for the new classroom furniture and facilities provided by the Japanese Embassy. This project was funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program, which contributed FJD $377,764.81.
Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, the Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, officially handed over the new classroom facility. He was joined by Her Excellency Charlotte Darlow, the High Commissioner of New Zealand, and Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs.
As part of this dual celebration, High Commissioner Darlow also formally delivered the solar power system to the school. The New Zealand High Commission collaborated with Naceva District School in May 2022 to install the solar-powered system, ensuring a reliable supply of clean energy for classroom lighting, office equipment, and internet access.
Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua thanked both Japan and New Zealand on behalf of the Fijian Government for their vital contributions, emphasizing the positive impact these developments will have on the students and staff at Naceva District School.
With the addition of the new facilities and solar power system, the learning environment will be significantly improved, enabling students to achieve academic success.
Both the New Zealand High Commission and the Japanese Embassy have reinforced their commitment to supporting Fiji’s educational initiatives and community development projects through enhanced cooperation.
During their official visit, the Kadavu Provincial Administrator briefed the visiting dignitaries on ongoing development projects and plans to advance health and education facilities on the island.
