A 46-year-old Chinese national has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years for the attempted murder of another individual. Bi Baodang, who is married and has a young daughter in China, was convicted and sentenced by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu for the assault that took place on August 2, 2022.
Court documents reveal that the victim, Qu Guang Qing, had just departed from Walu Bay wharf in Suva and was en route home when Baodang suddenly appeared from the back seat. He accused Mr. Qu of mistreating him while brandishing a knife and proceeded to stab him in the chest.
A medical report confirmed that the stab wound was potentially life-threatening and was likely caused by a sharp knife.
