Levuka has proudly unveiled its new Peace Garden, a collaborative project brought to fruition by the University of Fiji and the University of Bradford. This beautiful space is situated on the historical grounds of the Masonic Lodge, which was established in 1913 and had unfortunately suffered significant damage due to an arson attack in 2000.

The inauguration of the Peace Garden was led by Ben Naidu, the Chairperson of the Levuka Town Council Board. Dr. Erica Myers-Davis, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Oceania, emphasized the importance of this partnership. She stated, “The collaboration between the Universities of Fiji and Bradford, the Levuka Town Council, and RSA Oceania demonstrates how working across disciplines and sectors can produce initiatives with profound local and global impact.” The Peace Garden serves as a testament to the power of unity among people and ideas in effecting meaningful change.

In addition, the University of Fiji has established an office in Levuka, aimed at supporting local students and providing extensive educational opportunities for the communities of Ovalau and Moturiki.

This initiative not only beautifies the area but also fosters a spirit of collaboration and education, contributing positively to the community’s development. The Peace Garden stands as a hopeful symbol of recovery and growth following past challenges.

Summary: The opening of the Peace Garden in Levuka marks a significant partnership between the University of Fiji, the University of Bradford, and local authorities. It signifies a commitment to collaboration and education, while also serving as a beautiful and meaningful space for the community.
