Families from Koro in Levuka, Lomaiviti, gathered with great enthusiasm as they awaited the arrival of the MV Captain Inoke, a new vessel from Goundar Shipping Limited. This event was particularly meaningful for the Ratotodro family, as the ship honors their late father, Captain Inoke Ratotodro.
Melaia Ratotodro, the oldest daughter, was emotional as she recalled her father during the vessel’s arrival at Port Mua-i-Walu. “Our dad, who served Goundar Shipping for nearly three decades, passed away last October. In his memory, the company named this ship after him,” she shared. “Though we miss him greatly, we’re grateful for this tribute.”
Managing director George Goundar expressed his grief over the loss of his dear friend, noting that Captain Inoke played a crucial role in establishing the company. “When I founded this company in 2011, he provided invaluable support and advice. He was instrumental in our operations,” Goundar said, reminiscing about the partnership that flourished over the years.
The vessel is captained by Sainimere Qutonilaba, a talented leader who has been with Goundar Shipping since 2011, starting as a cadet. After a traditional ceremony, attendees were invited to tour the new ship, marking a joyful and respectful celebration of both legacy and progress.
This heartfelt tribute serves as a reminder of the bonds formed through shared experiences and hard work, inspiring family and community resilience. The honor bestowed upon Captain Inoke through the naming of the vessel encourages continual remembrance and appreciation for those who have served diligently in their professions.
In summary, the event showcases the deep appreciation for family legacies and the impact one individual can have on others and the community. It warms the heart to see such connections celebrated in a meaningful way.
