Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his role as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week.
The 70-year-old leader cited two key reasons for his decision. Firstly, he stated that he accomplished his goal of forming the party to defeat the FijiFirst party, which he regarded as a significant achievement in his leadership. Secondly, he expressed the importance of prioritizing his health and well-being, indicating a desire to relinquish the pressures of both the presidential role and his chieftaincy in Nadi. He emphasized his choice to focus on his responsibilities as Tui Nadi and mentioned that he believes it is the right moment to hand over leadership to someone else.
Ratu Vuniyani also addressed rumors regarding disagreements within the party, labeling them as misinformation. He expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. Ratu Josefa Dimuri, the vice-president, is currently serving as the acting president.
