Leadership Shakeup: New Deputy Leader Appointed Amid Controversy

The People’s Alliance (PA) party has announced the appointment of Ro Filipe Tuisawau as one of its new deputy leaders, taking over from Lynda Tabuya, who was removed from the position in March. Ms. Tabuya’s dismissal was associated with allegations concerning her involvement in an extramarital affair and a drug scandal that occurred during a government trip to the Parliament of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, last year.

On Wednesday, September 25th, the party’s acting secretary, Sila Balawa, confirmed that the executive committee endorsed Ro Filipe’s appointment during their meeting. Ro Filipe currently serves as the Minister for Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Services, in addition to being the Leader of Government Business in Parliament. He previously held the role of Opposition Whip from 2018 to 2022 under the former administration.
