The Public Service Commission (PSC) is undergoing a significant reshuffle of key leadership roles within the government, aiming to optimize the management capabilities across essential Ministries. This decision was executed with the agreement of the Prime Minister, as confirmed by PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada.
Dr. Raijeli Taga, who has been serving as the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs effective February 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, currently at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take over Taga’s position at the Office of the Prime Minister, also effective from February 3, 2025. Additionally, Dr. Lesi will take on the role of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting to the Minister of Immigration.
Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who has been the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has recently assumed extra responsibilities, serving as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.
This reshuffling reflects an ongoing strategy by the government to enhance executive leadership within its ranks. It follows a period during which the PSC made substantial reappointments of Permanent Secretaries to pave the way for growth and development across various ministries, showcasing a commitment to utilizing local talent for government leadership.
The PSC’s commitment to developing Fijian talent among its leadership is an encouraging step for the country, promoting confidence in the capabilities of local professionals and enhancing effective governance. This move could lead to improved service delivery and a more robust public sector as these leaders assume their new roles.
In summary, the reshuffling of Permanent Secretaries underscores the government’s strategic focus on effective leadership and continuous improvement within its ministries, aiming for modern governance that aligns with national interests.
