The Lautoka sugar mill will close earlier this year, with the Sugar Industry Tribunal announcing that crushing will cease on October 7. In contrast, the mill concluded its operations on November 19 last year. Semi Leweniqila of the Sugar Industry Tribunal stated that the decision for the early closure was made following consultations with the Fiji Sugar Corporation. All growers in the Lautoka mill region are advised to deliver their crops to the mill by October 6, 2024.
